The 20 to 30 inch range is where a gong stops being an accent and starts filling a room, and it remains the range we recommend most often for a first serious gong. These sizes are large enough to produce a satisfying depth of fundamental and a genuine wash of sound, yet still light enough to hang on a modest stand, carry to a class, or live comfortably in a home studio. Within the range, the differences are real: a 20 inch gong speaks quickly with a brighter voice, while a 28 or 30 inch instrument opens up with a noticeably deeper tone and longer sustain.
